MARIAS FAIR UPDATES

Packets are ready to be picked up at the Extension office.

The 4-H side of the fair will go on but we are still following the guidelines and recommendations set by the Governor, the Health Department and MSU Extension.

With everyone’s safety in mind there are several changes to the calendar this year. You can view the calendar as well as the complete fairbook online by clicking on the following link.

http://mariasfair.msuextension.org/

  • All static exhibits need to be dropped off on clean-up day, July 11th at the fairgrounds between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Items will be judged on Sunday - BEFORE the fair.
  • Weigh-in’s are on Wednesday morning
  • Sheep show is on Wednesday evening
  • Small animal shows are on Wednesday with the exception of the dog show, which is still on Saturday morning.
  • Size of livestock shows will be limited
  • The livestock auction will be on Friday afternoon. Seating is reserved for buyers. The auction will be on FaceBook live and viewing areas will be available for friends and family.
  • Bathrooms will have limited hours as they need to be sanitized every 2 hours. They will be closed at 10:00 p.m. and opened at 6:00 a.m. If we can get volunteers to help sanitize the bathrooms, there is a possibility of extending the hours to stay open until 11:00 p.m. and opening up at 5:00 a.m. The bathroom would need to be cleaned at closing and two hours after opening. This might be especially beneficial on Wednesday night/morning of the Swine show. We are hoping to get at least one volunteer from each county. Please contact the Extension office if you are interested in extending hours.

This is just an example of some of the changes. Please be sure to look at the literature enclosed in your packet and also be aware of signage at the fairgrounds.

This is certainly a strange year for everyone. Our intent is that the changes made will help everyone stay healthy. We do ask that those who are at risk or have any symptoms of illness stay safely at home.

We hope everything goes smoothly. We appreciate your patience if/when there are glitches. Hopefully everything will be back to normal next year.

Marias Fair Livestock Auction

Be sure to get the word out to potential buyers that the Marias Fair livestock auction is on Friday this year starting at 4:00.

There should be sale posters in your fair packet so be sure to distribute them to potential buyers.

The sale will be in the Seewald barn as usual with extra seating provided to allow for social distancing.

For buyers who would like to buy but don’t want to attend the sale we have a proxy bid form which is included on the last page of the newsletter. They may also phone bid by contacting a Livestock Committee Member.

Seating is reserved for buyers, but the sale will be on FaceBook live so family members can view on their personal devices or in the old sale barn or exhibit building.

Marias Fair 4-H Grown

If you’d like to be featured on the Marias Fair Facebook page and website answer the following questions and email your answers and a photo of yourself to Lindsey Habets, Marias Fair web master, at [email protected]

Marias Fair 4-H Grown Questionnaire
  • What is your Name, Age and County?
  • What projects are you taking to the fair?
  • What is your favorite project?
  • Tell us several things about your project.
  • What is your favorite part about 4-H?
  • What is one thing you learned this year?
  • What are your goals for the future?

It would be GREAT to have a photo of you with one (or more) of your 4-H projects if possible. It does not need to be a completed project. In fact, a photo of a project-in- progress is a very fun way to share what all goes into it!

These posts were a lot of fun last year, and there were awesome reactions from people who follow the Marias Fair page. All 4-Hers are welcome to share your story. We’d love to hear from you.

4-H Campground

A great crew showed up at the 4-H Campground Clean-up this year. Lots of tree trimming, mowing and pre-painting prep work was done. There are still some tables that need work and the bathroom doors need to be painted.  The outhouses on the south side have been pumped. Thanks to the Kultgens for supplying the necessary water for that project. Volunteers came up another day and took down the old outhouses that were on the North side.
